In the middle of a tranquil neighbourhood, 47 care apartments will be realized divided in two groups. One of 17 independent apartments for elderly people and 30 apartments special care apartments in a so called ‘small scale housing’ project. Both groups are situated around an outdoor space; a protective internal patio and an entrance courtyard connected with the outside. These outdoor spaces relate to the different phases in care.
In order do create a more individual appearance of the apartments and refer to the scale of the surroundings, the size of the building is fragmented by designing rhythmic shifts in the face. These shifts contain balconies and ter- races. The facades will be clad in yellow/orange brickwork, breathing an atmosphere of warmth. The internal layout of the building is designed in such a way that it can be transformed into a normal apartment complex in the future, thus augmenting the sustainability in use.
